Mayors of municipalities belonging to the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta have met to review waste statistics for 2023 in order to focus their actions for the new year 2024.
Other topics were also discussed, such as the closure of emergency areas, the joint tax rate project, a study of DtD experiences, and the environmental education campaigns to be carried out in the municipalities of Ribera Alta.
The minimum target set by the European Union for recycling all waste by 2025 is 55%, by 2030 60% and by 2035 65%. That is why all the actions being carried out by the Ribera Alta Association of Municipalities seek to improve selective sorting and reduce the remaining fraction, in order to reduce waste and sort it correctly.
The good figures obtained by the municipalities of Ribera Alta are due to the involvement of the population and highly efficient collection systems such as door-to-door collection, as well as the implementation of organic waste collection three years ago in some municipalities in our region.
The consequences of not separating waste correctly have a significant environmental and economic impact and may affect individual waste management payments.
The DtD municipalities are above 60% in selective collection, considering collection throughout the municipality as a whole, including collection points in housing developments and scattered dwellings, which reduce the good data from high-efficiency systems.
Here we provide some data collected on the % of selective separation in 2023 in the municipalities of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta that have implemented organic waste collection.
