La Ribera Alta

La Ribera Alta is an inland region of the Valencian Community, with a total area of 979.5 km² and a population of over 220,000 inhabitants, giving it a population density of approximately 224 inhabitants per square kilometre. Considering that the average density of the Valencian Community is 173 inhabitants per km², La Ribera Alta is above the regional average.

Its location, about 35 kilometres southwest of the city of Valencia, and good road connections with the AP-7 motorway place La Ribera Alta in an important position with regard to the main communication axis with the European Union. Furthermore, the region is crossed by the A-7 motorway, which links Valencia with the south-east of the peninsula (Murcia) and the interior (Albacete).

The administrative unit of Ribera Alta comprises a total of 35 municipalities and one minor local entity: Alberic, Alcàntera de Xúquer, l’Alcúdia, Alfarb, Algemesí, Alginet, Alzira, Antella, Beneixida, Benifaió, Benimodo, Benimuslem, Carcaixent, Càrcer, Carlet, Castelló, Catadau, Cotes, l’Énova, Gavarda, Guadassuar, Llombai, Manuel, Massalavés, Montserrat, Montroi, la Pobla Llarga, Rafelguaraf, Real, Sant Joanet, Sellent, Senyera, Sumacàrcer, Tous, Turís and the minor local entity of la Barraca d’Aigües Vives. Of all these municipalities, Alzira, the capital of the region, is the most populated centre with around 45,000 inhabitants.
