Sustainable Rural Development Conference

On Friday 14 May, the Sustainable Rural Development Conference took place as part of the ESCAPE 2 project of the Erasmus+ programme, coordinated by the Consorci de la Ribera. The project aims to promote sustainable rural tourism in line with the sustainable development goals and the 2030 Agenda. Nine partners from Italy, Portugal, Ireland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece and Turkey are participating in the project. These territories have in common that they have lower levels of productivity and employment in tourism but are rich in landscapes and heritage.

The project’s objectives include analysing the situation of sustainable tourism in La Ribera, establishing strategic guidelines within the region and creating a training course on sustainability in tourism.

A total of 12 municipalities in La Ribera participated in the conference, represented by authorities and technical tourism staff. Members of the Valencian Association of Rural Tourism Xúquer, representatives of the FVMP and staff from Ribera Impulsa also participated. The strategic lines in sustainable rural tourism that are to be implemented were explained, as was the analysis of resources that is being carried out as a starting point for the work.
