The mayor of Benifaió, Marta Ortiz, and the president of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, Txema Pelàez, have presented the exhibition ‘Digitalisation of the Towers of La Ribera’ at the Torre de la Plaça, which will be open until 3 November.
The exhibition consists of eight towers in three dimensions: Torre Mussa (Benifaió), Torre de la Plaça (Benifaió), Torre dels Coloms (Monastery of Santa Maria de la Murta, in Alzira), as well as Torre de Antella, Torre de Alèdua (Llombai), Torre de Alfarb, Torre Ràcef (Almussafes), and Castell de Montroi. The towers are 3D printed from virtual models, created using photogrammetry and thousands of geolocated aerial and terrestrial photographs.
The exhibition also allows visitors to view the digital models in the files published on the heritage website of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, Riberana. The exhibition will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday to Friday, until 3 November. The mayor of Benifaió, Marta Ortiz, highlighted that “the work highlights an important part of the heritage of the town of Benifaió, namely our towers. It is always a pleasure to open the doors of our tower so that people can visit the exhibition. As it coincides with our patron saint festivities, we are going to take advantage of the guided tours to explain and include this exhibition. We invite the people of Benifaió and beyond to come and see it”.
Txema Pelàez, president of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, expressed his gratitude to the Benifaió Town Council: “What better place to present this exhibition than inside a tower, in this Torre de la Plaça. We are grateful to the Benifaió Town Council for offering us this space, which contextualises its historical significance and function of defence and protection of the population. We hope that the residents of Benifaió will be able to visit it, and we will go to other municipalities that can host the exhibition, so that residents can see it first-hand”.
The exhibition had previously been on display at the MUMA museum in Alzira and at the Algemesí market, and will now be on display in one of the towers that make up the exhibition, the Torre de la Plaça de Benifaió, listed as a Site of Cultural Interest. In a single space, visitors can learn in depth about its volume and details, as well as its history and detailed textual and visual information. The work has been made possible thanks to co-financing from Turisme Comunitat Valenciana. The Riberana project began in 2019 thanks to the participation of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta in the Interreg Europe CD-ETA project.
