On Saturday 17 December, the 24th edition of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta International Open was held in Carlet. Almost sixty players, including five titled players, gathered in the magnificent and spacious Saló Giner hall.
After eight hard-fought rounds, two players tied at seven points: IM Slobodan Kovacevic (Benimodo) and young FM Diego Macías (Andreu Paterna). As the first tiebreaker was the head-to-head result, Kovacevic took first place.
These two players were followed by a group of four players tied at 6 points: Antoni Montalban (Carcaixent), FIDE Master José Torres (Andreu Paterna), FIDE Master José Manuel Díaz Velandia (Gambito Benimaclet) and Javier Cortés Martí (La Ribera Alberic).
The awards ceremony was attended by the president of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, Txema Peláez, the mayor of Carlet, Lola Navarro, and the councillor for sports, Jonathan Martínez.
