Vallivana Murgui, equality promoter and coordinator of the Empoblar programme of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, has been selected for the 9th edition of the ‘Municipal Volunteer Specialist’ programme of the Fons Valencià per la Solidaritat
La Ribera Alta, 26 July 2022. – The Fons Valencià per la Solidaritat has launched the 9th edition of the ‘Municipal Volunteer Specialist’ programme, through which a technical expert from the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, a local partner of the Fons, has been selected to spend a month of the summer doing international volunteer work through technical cooperation in Sucre (Bolivia), in accordance with a request for technical assistance from the South American country. The assistance provided by the technical expert from the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, together with their counterpart in the South, will focus on the promotion and empowerment of women in the political sphere.
The employee of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta selected by the Fons Valencià to participate in the new edition of the ‘Volunteer Municipal Specialist’ programme – joining nine other workers from different town councils and associations in the Valencian Community – is Vallivana Murgui, an equality promoter and coordinator of the Empoblar programme of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta.
Vallivana Murgui, a native of Llíria with a degree in Gender Equality Promotion, has extensive work, associative and collaborative experience in the field of equality. Murgui, whose profile is ideally suited to the technical assistance requested by the southern counterpart, will collaborate with the Juana Azurduy Centre (Sucre, Bolivia) in strengthening the knowledge of the Bolivian counterpart’s technical staff who are implementing advocacy strategies to bring the agenda promoting equality for women into the political debate in the southern country.
Both Vallivana Murgui and the other people selected for the ‘Volunteer Municipal Specialist’ project have already completed the preliminary training course during the technical cooperation period in the southern country, where they have learned in detail and on an individual basis about the different types of technical assistance they will be providing, as well as making initial contact with their counterparts. In addition, they have been trained in the international development cooperation system, technical cooperation and cooperation at the local level.
The president of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, Txema Peláez, welcomed Vallivana Murgui to make a preliminary assessment of this municipal cooperation action. Txema Peláez highlighted ‘the importance of creating direct links of collaboration between countries in the north and south’ with the aim of ‘generating and sharing experiences and knowledge that are enriching for both parties’. In addition, Peláez highlighted ‘the importance of projects such as the Fons’ ‘Volunteer Municipal Specialist’ programme in working in a decentralised and direct manner for fair, equitable and sustainable human development’.
