The headquarters of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta hosted the Conference on Door-to-Door Waste Collection, including organic waste, co-organised by Zero Waste Europe and the Valencian Association of Door-to-Door Collection Municipalities.
The conference began with speeches by Paqui Momparler (president of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta), Kaisa Karjailainen (Mission Zero Academy), Joan Marc Simon and Ismael Casotti (Zero Waste Europe).
The meeting was very well received and was attended by local councils, associations and experts from the sector, who were able to learn about highly efficient selective waste collection systems, in particular the door-to-door system, which has proven in several trials to be the most efficient method of selective waste separation at source. In addition, key aspects such as reducing waste generation to lessen our environmental impact and innovative initiatives for composting organic waste were discussed.
The presentations were given by Montse Cruz and David Salan (technical commissioners of the Catalan and Valencian municipal associations for door-to-door collection, respectively), Ignasi Cervera (Mayor of Orba and Environmental Technician of Benitatxell), Ainara Atorrasagasti (Councillor for the Environment of the Hernani City Council), Tamara Zaplain (Environmental Technician of the Hernani City Council) and Óscar Giménez (Head of the Environment Department of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta).
They also learned about Zero Waste Cities Certification, a solution to support local councils in their transition to zero waste, and shared opinions on how to achieve EU waste targets through door-to-door collection and the importance of a zero waste approach.
