Today, Monday 15 July 2024, institutional representatives visited the construction site for an Animal Shelter in l’Alcúdia, which will serve the Consorci de la Ribera and other municipalities affiliated with the service.
This project involves the construction and launch of an Animal Shelter that will help meet all the health and humanitarian needs of abandoned or lost animals in the areas covered by this project (which will also have another similar centre in the town of Tavernes de la Valldigna), as well as educating and raising awareness in society about the care, respect and responsible ownership of animals.
The project has been developed with the help of associations with experience in these areas and the valuable collaboration of several specialists in veterinary medicine, education, the environment and agronomy, as well as the study of other similar centres. Many organisations and associations from different fields have collaborated on the project, contributing ideas to improve the programme in terms of the quality of the facilities and, above all, the benefit of the users’ stay: animal protection organisations and associations, local police forces from different towns, leading animal shelters, volunteers and veterinarians.
During the visit, the project manager, Javier Gironés, explained the details of the project to those in attendance. The presentation was attended by Paqui Momparler Orta, president of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta; Òscar Navarro Torres, vice-president of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Baixa; Voro Femenia Peiró, president of the Mancomunitat de Municipis de la Safor; Andreu Salom Porta, mayor of l’Alcúdia; and Isabel Madramany Sanchis, councillor for animal welfare in l’Alcúdia, among others.
The shelter is located in industrial estate no. 6, sector S-15 of L’Alcúdia, between Joaquín Sanchis Marco and Josep Miquel Borràs streets. The plot has an area of 4,053.22 m².
The facilities will consist of an area for dogs, one for cats and one for other animals, as well as a treatment area and a reception and administration module, among other spaces.
Work began in July 2024 and the opening is scheduled for the end of 2025, with an investment of €1,133,770.00.
