The Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, in collaboration with the town councils of Alzira, Carcaixent and La Barraca d’Aigües Vives, has organised a cycle route along the Camí Natural de l’Antic Trenet to mark the institution’s 30th anniversary. The event was a success and highlighted the historical and natural heritage of the trail during a cultural and healthy day out, which also formed part of the 26th National Greenways Day.
The group of participants enjoyed a free guided tour between the towns of Carcaixent and La Barraca d’Aigües Vives. The route covered approximately nine kilometres out and nine back, with stops at the most iconic spots along the Nature Trail. Taking part in the event were Paqui Momparler, president of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta; Toni Barea, president of the Consorci de la Ribera; and Amparo Pou, mayor of La Barraca d’Aigües Vives.
Comprising people of all ages from various municipalities in the Ribera region, the group was able to visit the signal boxes of the old railway line that connected Carcaixent and Dénia. These buildings, formerly used for railway purposes, have recently been restored by the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta and converted into visitor centres with new signage and interior and exterior branding.
The group also visited the Barraca d’Aigües Vives station, where participants had lunch and were able to have the Camí Natural de l’Antic Trenet stamp added to their “Caminos Naturales” passport. This initiative by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food comprises fifty iconic routes spread across all the autonomous communities and allows users to record every trail they have walked, promoting natural, active and sustainable tourism.
