The Carlet Town Council and the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta have launched a project to recover the audiovisual archive of Tele Carlet (1989–2012), digitising the tapes from the early years of local television.
The digitisation process has involved changing the format of several tapes with more than thirty years of history, cataloguing them, archiving metadata, storing them in a digital repository and publishing a selection. This first phase of the project has been carried out as a result of the framework protocol signed by Carlet Town Council and the Ribera Alta Association of Municipalities in 2021.
Txema Peláez, president of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, highlighted the importance of the digital preservation of these archives: “The formats in which we store digital archives are also at risk of obsolescence and degradation. The council has stored its archive and we have now embarked on a path to contribute to its conservation and knowledge. It is Carlet’s heritage, but it is also part of the cultural heritage of La Ribera”.
Lola Navarro, Mayor of Carlet, thanked the Mancomunitat for ‘this work to recover our memory, which will remain forever’. For his part, Bernat Nogués, Councillor for Participation, highlighted the “involvement of the Town Council in the recovery of our heritage. The Tele Carlet archive consists of 2,023 tapes. We are concerned about their preservation and that is why we started the project, of which we now have a sample”.
The Carlet Town Council and the Mancomunitat have also presented the digitisation of other heritage elements, such as the chapel of Sant Bernat, one of the emblems of the municipality both for its architectural uniqueness (particular heptagonal floor plan) and for the devotion to the patron saints of the city, Sant Bernat, Maria and Gràcia.
The chapel has been digitised through extensive photogrammetry work with more than a thousand polygons, and a 3D print model has been obtained. This work will form part of an exhibition on the route of the chapels of La Ribera, following the line marked by the Towers of La Ribera, which have been digitised in 3D. The Sant Bernat chapel also offers a virtual 360-degree high-resolution tour of its interior, with more than 300 megapixels per image. The tour is available in Valencian, Spanish and English, with a complete virtual tour of the ground floor and first floor.
The digitisation in Carlet was carried out as a result of the framework collaboration agreement signed in May 2021 between the Carlet Town Council and the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta. Its purpose was to establish basic guidelines for collaboration on the digitisation of Carlet’s local heritage, within the framework of the overall project for the digitisation of the heritage of La Ribera, Riberana.
