Refurbishment of the signal box and surrounding area as a reception point for users of the Camí Natural de l’Antic Trenet Carcaixent-Dénia at km 14.2 of the CV-50 road

19 July 2024

This Friday, 19 July, saw the inauguration of the restored signal box and surrounding area as a reception point for users of the Camí Natural de l’Antic Trenet Carcaixent-Dénia at pk14.2 on the CV-50, near the town of La Barraca d’Aigües Vives.

The presentation was attended by Paqui Momparler Orta, president of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, and Alfons Domínguez, mayor of Alzira, as well as Gilles Denans, mayor of La Barraca d’Aigües Vives, Virtudes Piera, councillor for Education in Alzira, and Amparo Pou, PSOE councillor in La Barraca d’Aigües Vives.

This is a natural area of great scenic interest, although some sections have been urbanised (access issues and isolated buildings of different types and sizes).

The purpose of this basic and implementation project is to refurbish the signalman’s hut and its surroundings as a reception and meeting point for users of the Camí Natural de l’Antic Trenet Carcaixent-Dènia, near the town of Barraca d’Aigües Vives, in order to assign it a use linked to mobility and leisure on the Greenway.

This building will be used as a warehouse linked to the greenway and will serve as an information point for users, by placing a QR sign indicating the route with the main points of interest and possible connections to the towns through which it runs. It will also serve as a reception centre, where greenway promotion and revitalisation technicians will offer users direct information on active tourism activities promoted by greenways, hiking and cycle tourism, etc.

The work carried out consists of replacing the roof, refurbishing the interior and renovating the exterior, without altering its original type or appearance as a building linked to the use of the old railway.

This action is part of the ‘2022-2023 Investment Plan’, which was definitively approved by the Plenary Session of the Provincial Council of Valencia on 20 September 2022. The subsidy budget allocated to the project is €51,355.52 (including VAT) for the work on the building and its surroundings and the technicians’ fees.

The development of greenways has positive effects such as the revaluation of natural and cultural heritage, the promotion of outdoor exercise and ecotourism in safe and easy conditions, and the socio-economic revitalisation of the regions, among other benefits.

The event featured the presentation of a promotional video for the Camí Natural de l’Antic Trenet, produced by the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, with aerial images of the route to showcase the appeal of this natural and tourist resource.
