The Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta is allocating one million euros to the rehabilitation and restoration of tourist infrastructure and natural resources damaged by the DANA in the municipalities of the Ribera Alta region. The amount comes from the European NextGenerationEU funds, channelled by the Spanish Government as part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, through a grant from the Valencian Regional Government managed by the Regional Secretariat for Tourism.
Specifically, 300,000 euros will be allocated to actions in the Ribera Alta River Cycle Route Network and the Camí Natural de l’Antic Trenet. In addition, €400,000 is being invested in improvements to urban parks and gardens through the creation of climate islands in 12 municipalities and €300,000 in the creation or refurbishment of recreational areas in nine municipalities.
The climate islands will be implemented in the municipalities of Benimodo, Carcaixent, Carlet, Catadau, La Pobla Llarga, Llombai, Massalavés, Montroi, Real, Sant Joanet, Senyera and Tous. The recreational areas will be created in Alberic, Alfarb, Algemesí, Alzira, Gavarda, Guadassuar, Manuel, Montserrat and Turís.
The president of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, Paqui Momparler Orta, emphasised: “Taking action in the region is not just about repairing what the DANA storm damaged, but about sowing the seeds for the future. Every climate island, every restored path, is a commitment to a more vibrant and resilient landscape. In the face of climate change, we cannot wait: we have to prepare ourselves, take care of what we have and rethink how we live in our environment. Only then will we make La Ribera a stronger, greener and more sustainable place for future generations”.
