The Consorci de la Ribera, formed by the associations of municipalities of Ribera Alta and Ribera Baixa, is launching a new European project to tackle disasters. The project is called RISE Resilient Communities and is funded by the European Union through the ERASMUS+ programme. Its aim is to prepare for emergencies through adult education, digital learning and innovation.
RISE Resilient Communities has been running since September, with the Consorci de la Ribera acting as coordinator. Other partners in this initiative include EXO Società Consortile from Italy, Building Ukraine Together from Ukraine, Antalya Bilim Universites from Turkey, and two institutions from Ireland: Momentum Educate + Innovate and Gairmeach Training Limited.
This project will equip educators, community leaders and organisations with tools to anticipate, prepare for and respond to crises. To promote proactive disaster recovery and achieve long-term community resilience, it will integrate innovation, environmental resilience and risk mitigation strategies into learning.
The programme will train more than 80 educators and community leaders in disaster preparedness and resilience and more than 250 adults from disaster-affected communities in La Ribera. Structured training and digital innovation will be provided, as well as a compilation of European best practices in disaster recovery. An Innovation Lab will also be held to co-design recovery solutions using digital tools and participation models to ensure sustainable and scalable impact.
The training will take place in the town councils of La Ribera participating in the EmpleaXúquer project as a complement to prevention. It will last for 24 months, but afterwards all the project materials will be made available to the public to continue training citizens in disaster mitigation and prevention.
