The Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta received the SPECIAL award at the IV Premis de la Ribera Alta y Baixa gala organised by El Periódico de Aquí, held on Wednesday 12 November at the Teatro Giner in Carlet. The newspaper recognised the regional body’s «outstanding involvement, coordination and commitment during the floods».
The gala highlighted the initiatives of the municipalities of La Ribera, in a unique meeting between mayors, authorities, business people and civil society. A total of 14 awards were presented to different projects and institutions.
The SPECIAL award was presented to the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta and the Carlet Forest Fire Association (ACIF). Laura Sáez, the mayor of Carlet, presented the award to Paqui Momparler, president of the Mancomunitat.
«It is important to recognise the work of the media, which gives a voice to what is happening in our towns and helps to highlight the work of so many people and institutions. On behalf of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, I would like to express my gratitude for this recognition, which we share with great pride and emotion. All the departments of the Mancomunitat and the Consorci de la Ribera threw themselves into the effort in one way or another. Not everyone could be here, but this recognition is for them, who gave their best to help our towns at such a difficult time. The greatest force was not the water, but the people who rose up to help. Amidst the sadness and uncertainty, we saw the best side of our people, their solidarity, commitment and strength to work together. Thank you for this recognition and for making us feel that, united, La Ribera always moves forward. Thank you very much», said Paqui Momparler during the ceremony.
