The mayor of Alzira, Diego López, and the president of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, Txema Peláez, have inaugurated the exhibition ‘Digitalisation of the Towers of La Ribera’, which will be on display at the Municipal Museum of Alzira, MUMA, over the coming months.
The exhibition consists of eight towers printed in three dimensions, including the Torre dels Coloms (Monastery of Santa Maria de la Murta, in Alzira), as well as the Torre d’Antella, Torre d’Alèdua (Llombai), Torre d’Alfarb, Torre Ràcef (Almussafes), Torre Mussa (Benifaió), Torre de la Plaça (Benifaió) and Castell de Montroi.
All the towers have been digitised using photogrammetry based on thousands of geolocated aerial and terrestrial photographs. The resulting 3D model has been published online and stored in a digital repository called “Riberana”.
Txema Peláez, president of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, expressed his gratitude to the Alzira Town Council and MUMA for opening their doors to promote the exhibition ‘Digitisation of the Towers of La Ribera’: “We invite all citizens to come and see this exhibition of our heritage for themselves. We wanted to make it accessible, which is why the towers include QR codes linking to virtual models, with audio descriptions and Braille panels”.
These towers, many with more than ten centuries of history, have been declared Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC). In a single space, visitors can explore and learn in depth about their volumes and details, as well as their history and detailed textual and visual information. The work has been made possible thanks to co-financing from GVA Turisme.
The heritage catalogue on the “Riberana” portal includes various elements in innovative formats, such as virtual tours, 360° videos and 3D models. Among the future projects being worked on by the Mancomunitat is the future virtual opening of the Alzira ethnological museum.
The “Riberana” project was launched as a result of the participation of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta in the Interreg Europe CD-ETA project and maintains constant work and collaboration with different town councils in the region, such as Alzira.
The exhibition on the Towers of La Ribera can be visited during the MUMA’s normal opening hours, in the corridors on the first floor.
