With the aim of promoting the door-to-door waste collection model, an association of Valencian municipalities that provide, or will soon provide, this type of waste collection service has been created.
The main objective of this association is to promote this method of waste collection among Valencian municipalities, as it has proven to be the most effective way of increasing recycling levels. In addition, this entity aims to be a forum for the exchange of experiences among member municipalities in order to achieve a better waste collection service.
Initially, the association is made up of fourteen municipalities and three associations of municipalities, totalling 35 municipalities throughout the Valencian Community. However, the possible entry of other municipalities that have already shown interest in joining the association is not ruled out, as they will be implementing this waste collection system in the coming months.
The ceremony to establish this new association took place at the headquarters of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta in Alzira, where its representatives were appointed. Txema Peláez, president of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, was appointed president of the association, while Josep Francesc Signes, mayor of Gata de Gorgos, was appointed vice-president. The mayor of Ayora, José Vicente Anaya, will be the secretary and Belén Peris, councillor of Les Alqueries, will be the treasurer. The municipalities of l’Alcora, Algemesí, l’Alqueria de la Comtessa, l’Atzúbia, Banyeres de Mariola, Benlloc, Bocairent, Ontinyent, Orba, Pedreguer and Pinós are also members of the Association, in addition to the associations of the Ribera Alta, Canal de Navarrés and Alt Túria.
“With the creation of the Valencian Association of Municipalities for Door-to-Door Collection, we want to promote this system in other municipalities because it has been proven to be a clean system that achieves the best recycling rates”, said Txema Peláez, president of the Association. “We believe that the fact that the municipalities that are committed to this system are united will give new impetus to this collection system, promoting and improving it. Together with the municipalities that provide the service jointly, this association brings together 35 municipalities, representing almost 150,000 inhabitants who either already use the door-to-door system or are in the process of implementing it”, concluded President Txema Peláez.
