The Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta and the Cullera Town Council present the digitisation of Cullera Castle with a 3D model and a half-metre-high model of Cullera Castle, printed in polymer and painted by hand. The piece will be on display in the castle itself. The work follows the methodology of previous projects by the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta with Braille panels to facilitate accessibility.
Paqui Momparler, president of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, pointed out that “we have been able to take advantage of the regional body’s experience in digitisation projects to make this model a reality and to be able to have it here today. The Heritage Department of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta has carried out 3D projects of buildings such as towers, chapels and castles, some of them in the Ribera Baixa, also taking advantage of our participation in the Consorci de la Ribera”.
Cullera Castle has been hand-painted for greater realism and incorporates information signs in three languages and Braille panels to facilitate accessibility for people with visual impairments. This project to digitise and produce a 3D print arose as a result of the exhibition of the ‘Torres de la Ribera’ and ‘Ermites de la Ribera’ samples at the Castell de Cullera, when interest was expressed in having a three-dimensional representation of the Castell. The project was made possible thanks to a 3D scan carried out for the Cullera Town Council by a Valencian technology company, TSE Technology.
The mayor of Cullera, Jordi Mayor, said that this model “will help people to better understand what our castle is like and its dimensions”. In addition to the miniature recreation, the digitisation of the fortress ‘means that it can be visited virtually’. Finally, he highlighted ‘the collaboration between the two administrations to carry out the project’.
The cost has been shared between Cullera and La Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta. The model can be visited at the Castell de Cullera itself during its normal opening hours, and could be taken to other spaces and buildings in the municipality to bring this heritage to as many residents as possible.
