The Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, together with the town councils of Alzira, La Barraca d’Aigües Vives and Carcaixent, organised a cycle route along the Camí Natural de l’Antic Trenet this Saturday. To mark World Tourism Day, the natural environment was showcased in a healthy and cultural activity.
The day began at 9 a.m. with simultaneous departures from Alzira and Carcaixent to a general meeting point. Participants enjoyed a guided tour with stops at two Trenet gatekeeper’s huts and lunch at La Barraca d’Aigües Vives station. The route, approximately 14 kilometres long, ended at Portixol. Participants then returned to their initial meeting point to conclude the activity.
The Camí Natural de l’Antic Trenet allows visitors to cycle along part of the route of the old narrow-gauge railway line that connected Carcaixent and Dénia. The route is full of historic buildings and all kinds of trees, from orange trees to pines, and offers the opportunity to discover many corners of La Ribera and even reach Tavernes de la Valldigna.
The response to this initiative has been remarkable, with places running out at the beginning of the week. The safety of participants of all ages has been guaranteed at all times thanks to a Civil Protection unit consisting of a vehicle and four people who have accompanied them along the route.
During the visit, passports for Spain’s natural trails and greenways were handed out. Inspired by the traditional passports for the Camino de Santiago and the Camino del Cid, this initiative by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food includes 50 iconic routes in its pages. Visitors can receive a stamp at each one and collect all their adventures. The distribution and stamping points for the Camí Natural de l’Antic Trenet passports are the tourist offices of the town councils of Alzira, Carcaixent, Simat de la Valldigna and Tavernes de la Valldigna, the Ajuntament de la Barraca d’Aigües Vives and the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta.
