The Mancomunitat presents its Honorary Award to the Escola de Tabal y Dolçaina d’Algemesí

Last Saturday, the Algemesí Municipal Theatre hosted the presentation ceremony for the 2021 Honorary Award from the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, which in this fifteenth edition was awarded to the Escola Municipal de Tabal y Dolçaina d’Algemesí.

The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Algemesí, Marta Trenzano, and the President of the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta, Txema Peláez, as well as several mayors and councillors from the region. The award, which depicts a dolçainer (traditional flute player) and was created by Algemesí sculptor Leonardo Borràs, was collected by Xavier Richart and Vicent Borràs Faenes, two leading figures at the EMTiD in Algemesí.

With this award, the Mancomunitat wished to recognise the work of this institution, which since 1975 has promoted the study and dissemination of the tabal and dolçaina. In the words of the president of the Mancomunitat, Txema Peláez, “the Escola de Tabal i Dolçaina d’Algemesí is a benchmark in the teaching of our instruments, having incorporated new methodologies into music education and expanded its training offer. Over the course of more than 45 years, many dolçaina and tabal players, both male and female, have passed through the school, and many of today’s professional dolçaina players have studied in its classrooms”.
