On Thursday, 23 October, the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta received a visit from Luis Planas Puchades, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. During this meeting, he met with the mayors of the municipalities of La Ribera affected by the DANA in October 2024 and with representatives of the agricultural sector. He also signed the Mancomunitat’s Guest Book to record his presence at the headquarters of the institution chaired by Paqui Momparler Orta, who welcomed the minister and participated in the events. Zulima Pérez, the government commissioner for reconstruction after the DANA, was also present.
«On the occasion of the visit to the actions carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to recover productive activity and rebuild infrastructure affected by the DANA on 29 October last year, I have the opportunity to visit the headquarters of the Mancomunitat and meet with the mayors of La Ribera. Many thanks to the president for her welcome and for the opportunity to hold this important meeting, with the Spanish Government’s aim of ensuring that not a single hectare of agricultural land is lost. We are going to work together to achieve this. Keep up the good work and keep going!», wrote the minister in the Guest Book.
Planas then outlined the Ministry’s actions to the mayors of the affected municipalities of Ribera Alta and Ribera Baixa and representatives of the agricultural sector. The total investment planned for the Ribera region as a whole is €74.4 million.
Specifically, €15.2 million will go towards agricultural roads, which have suffered the disappearance of structures in some sections, the obstruction of channels and the loss of material, among other damage. €28.4 million will go towards repairs in 50 irrigation communities, 40 of which are in Ribera Alta and 10 in Ribera Baixa. Finally, €30.8 million will be allocated to restoring more than 9,600 plots of agricultural land.
