On Thursday, a meeting of the Monitoring Committee for the restoration project of the Camí Natural Antic Trenet Carcaixent-Dénia route was held in Oliva. The committee is made up of the town councils and associations of municipalities through which the route passes, the Diputació de València and the Conselleria d’Infraestructures.
The meeting was attended by the Director General of Public Works, Transport and Mobility, Roser Obrer, the Provincial Councillor for Associations and Regionalisation of the Provincial Council of Valencia, Dolors Gimeno, the Mayor of Oliva, Yolanda Balaguer, the President of the Association of Municipalities of La Safor, Assumpta Domínguez, the president of the Ribera Alta Association of Municipalities, Txema Peláez, the deputy director general of Mobility, Josep Llin, the mayor of Barraca d’Aigües Vives, Verònica Almúnia, the mayor of Benifairó de la Valldigna, Josep Antoni Alberola, the councillor of Alzira Pep Carreres, the councillor of Oliva Josep Escrivà, and the councillor of Dénia Raül García, as well as technicians from the town councils of Oliva and Alzira and the Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta.
The Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta reported on the overall status of the project. It started with the sections already completed (a total of approximately 42 km), the sections to be completed this year and next (28 km) and, finally, the only section remaining to be completed is the 14 km stretch between Tavernes de la Valldigna and Gandia.
As for the sections enabled in the Ribera Alta, the 2 km urban section of Carcaixent has already been completed, followed by the Camí del Barranc de l’Estret with some 3.5 km and the section that runs from the Barraca de Aigües Vives station to Portitxol de Benifairó de la Valldigna (7 km). As for the regions of La Safor and La Marina Alta, there are already some 7 km of the Safor Greenway (from Gandia to Oliva), an alternative (unofficial) section that runs from Oliva to the Alicante municipality of El Verger and, finally, the El Verger Greenway Nature Trail to Dénia, which is about 6 km long and reaches the centre of this town. A footbridge over the CV-50 and the 2 km section that will connect this footbridge with the Estret bridge are currently under construction, thus completing the original Greenway route in the municipality of Alzira.
As for the next steps, with regard to the Regional Ministry of Public Works, the Director General, Roser Obrer, reported that this administration is preparing to implement the works for the construction of the roundabout on the CV-50, near the Monastery of Aigües Vives, which is expected to be completed in 2023. This action will ensure the safety of users of the Natural Path when crossing the road where the path passes to the right-hand side of the CV-50.
As for the next steps, with regard to the Conselleria d’Obres Públiques, the Director General, Roser Obrer, reported that this administration is preparing to implement the works for the construction of the roundabout on the CV-50, near the Monastery of Aigües Vives, which is expected to be completed in 2023. This action will ensure the safety of users of the Natural Path when crossing the road where the path passes to the right-hand side of the CV-50.
The administration also provided information about the branch road that will connect with the natural path, starting from the AMCOR industrial estate in Alzira, along the CV-50, and reaching the Pont de l’Estret bridge in this town between 2023 and 2024.
The Provincial Council of Valencia has already completed the project for the connecting path between Carcaixent and Barranc de l’Estret (1 km). In addition, subsidies totalling more than €250,000 have been granted to improve existing sections in several municipalities in La Safor.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food will immediately begin work on the Camino de la Valldigna, which is around 19 km long and will run from Portitxol, through Simat de la Valldigna and Benifairó de la Valldigna, to the railway station in Tavernes de la Valldigna. Work will then begin on the 5 km Alzira urban branch line, also by this administration.
The meeting also discussed the unfinished section that would connect Tavernes de la Valldigna with Gandia. The various municipal and supramunicipal entities were asked to find a common body to carry out this last section, which would provide the long-awaited continuity between the stations of Carcaixent and Alzira and the station of Dénia.
The Commission agreed to meet again in a few months’ time, when some works currently in progress or already put out to tender are more advanced or have been completed, to see what progress has been made during those months and to review the actions that remain to be taken.
